Under PM SHRI Scheme, a group of 250 students of class 9 to 12 along with five faculty members from Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIM Road Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh visited at ICAR-CISH Lucknow Uttar Pradesh on 16th November, 2023. Dr. Naresh Babu, Principal Scientist briefed about the institutes activities and technologies developed by this institute to students. Shri Arvind Kumar, ACTO explained about improved varieties of the fruit crops like mango, guava, bael, jamun etc. and other production technologies to the students. After that a scientist-students interaction session was organized. Students were made aware of present situation of Horticultural production. The role of soil nutrient and water management, natural farming protocols, abiotic stresses, soil testing, environment protection, post harvest practices, value addition, other secondary horticulture was discussed. Crop diversification and adaptation to climate change were given importance during the interaction. To enhance farmers income, scientific initiatives of diversified fruit crops in non-traditional areas of subtropical region were discussed. During field visits, high density plantation of mango and guava was shown. Successful vegetables cultivation in protected structures and enhancing the efficient use of natural resources were also communicated.
